Can we bring the hip hop mixtape back?

Okay maybe not "us" specifically, but like can we make it a thing again? As an artist I love to hop on beats from back in the day or even the occasional new joint that jumps out at me. I like the challenge of doing the original track justice while holding your own against the original rapper.

As a fan of hip hop I always looked forward to different artists rendition of a song (we all remember Lil Wayne snatching beats and making them his own). Also they were just a great way to keep the fans fed in between major releases! I know I'm not the only one jacking for beats in 2026, but it seems like its a lost art. What do you think? Do you believe the mixtape is truly done for, or do you think it still has a place in modern hip hop? I'd love to hear what you think in the comments!
